Santiago Architecture Design students sketch their preliminary character elevations before anything goes to CAD. The purpose of the sketch is to communicate to the client the “concept” in such a way as to show the character is studied but not necessarily done. The coloring is done utilizing markers with the intent to make the sketch look water-colored. Watercolors make a sketch appear warmer and unrefined (hopefully making the client less apprehensive about making changes) but are very time-consuming.
Santiago students can create a revised colored sketch in less than an hour.
The sketches you see are from an assignment that introduces Santiago High School students to common American house styles: Massing, identifying features, colors, and materials. Students were given a 2-story “program” to work from specifying site info, building area, tandem garage design, and required rooms, while maintaining an authentic character building from the exterior. The building’s construction drawings will be created utilizing Revit software. |
